I was at a herp expo yesterday looking at cages. All were being sold at a great price. All came with 11" flexwatt installed.
I am afraid of the stuff! But it seems to be so economical to run.
I am currently switching all my cages over to radiant heat panels, as opposed to heat lamps, but as you can imagine this is quite pricey. One large enclosure for a my burms was over $300 to install RHPs.
I Would like to hear your pro or con on flexwatt heat tape.
Is it safe? Is it 100% safe? Has anyone had any bad experiences with the tape?
And can it, by itself, heat a 2'x4'x1'H cage to temps in the low 80's in a room with ambient temps of around 60?
Tell me your stories...please!

Bob

I use Flexwatt on all of my cages and racks that I have built out of melamine. It works quite well, and I have never had a problem with it. For my racks, the bins slide over it on the shelf. For my cages, I tape it underneath, and it is propped up about 3/4" for air flow. I also use thermostats. Derek

Isn't anyone going to try and convince me to either use Flexwatt, or stay away from it?
