two subspecies of C. cornuta. The one you have I'm sure is C. c. cornuta from Hispanola. The one from Mona Isle is C. c. stegnegeri. They look similar but I don't believe ANY in captivity came from there. Thanks.....TC
stay tuned... A geneticist that works for Durrell in the UK has compared them and they are genetically the same. I was in the DR with him earlier this year
I was in the D.R. in April and I didn't hear anything about it. Has anything been published? T.C
tom, it has not been published yet. I was with the guy who did the test for another researcher. I may have said too much already so I will leave it at that. You are right about the subspecies and nothing legally has come off the island for awhile.
These things change all the time, with the help of dna and modern science, and will continue to
Hi Joel,
I have spent some time trying to come up with a firm distinction, and concluded that there isn't one. Although DNA may prove it, from a conservation viewpoint, it is better to have two separate species which justifies more preservation. Let's hope the data never goes public.
Brgds,
John

yup, you are right. I am kinda kicking myself for even bringing it up. Where are you now. on the high seas? have you made it back to the west coast? Good to see you are hanging around.
