bensassaman Sep 11, 2007 08:23 AM

Concrete mixing tubs found @lowes. Looking for some feed back. The size is great although the ones my lowes carry seem a bit thin and flimsy. anyone having problems with this issue. they should hold up to 6 females breeders of course, agian thin and flimsy. Thanks.

If the females don't have cardboard or something to chew on those bins might not work. Yes, they are very thin. I personally would not use them. Rats even chew through lab cages if they don't have enrichment. I don't waste my money on plastic for rats anymore. But those bins are pretty cheap.

Anyone else actually using these tubs? Currently or in the past? Thanks.

I have not used the tubs from Lowes. I have used the tubs from Home depot. But they recently switched the manufacturers. I think the new ones are a little thinner. That being said. I did get the same old style tubs from Home depot. But had to buy them from ace Hardware. They were twice what I had paid the first time. But the new ones see to wrok just as well. The only place I had chewing trouble was in the front edge of the tub there is a hole. I fixed by placing a screw in the hole. Seems to keep them from working on the hole. I also placed wood or cardboard in the tubs to give them soemthing else to work on. Todd

We use the ones from Home Depot and they have held up great so far. Not bad for the price.

The tubs at Lowe's are different than the ones at Home depot. Home depot has the ones you want. I also use the bus tubs made by rubbermaid...you can get them at Sam's for 2/$12.00
They are very heavy duty and in 4 years have never had any chewing ever...I have heard of the chew outs in the mixing tubs but have not had it happen to me yet.

I have been using them for over a year. I have 60 tubs and have had 3 chew threw in the last year. It is a pain in the ars when they chew a hole in the tub. Yes they had plenty of chew toys in the tub. The last one the chewed threw and brought back a full tub of food about 50lbs in the tub and it actually colapsed the tub. Hope this helps.
