On Sept. 6th I drove a van load of students to Lubbock, TX to buy rodents for class. Field trip right off the bat lol, it was fun!
I'm back teaching the lab animal class in the vet-tech program and Dr. the boss wanted me to get rodents because he wants the students to be the ones to care for them & learn what it's like to deal with them.
I didn't want to buy them around here because like people buying pets in this area you can't get a rodent that isn't sick so I wanted to buy them from the store where I bought my last group of pet rats who to this day- 8 months later have never been sick :::knock on wood::::
Since they don't do any real research on the rodents in this class it's too expensive to buy rodents from a lab supplier so we don't go that route.

This Lubbock store sells exotics only- no dogs or cats & I noticed that in the enclosures that said box turtles for sale, they don't have any in there any more.
I guess that law kicked in & that's that! They just need to remove the stickers off the tanks that say box turtle.
The painted turtles were gone too come to think of it!
They had plenty of baby sulcata for sale though.

I hear there are a lot of kinks in this new law.. I sure wish they'd hurry up & get those worked out.
On the bright side my vet got her confirmation from the govt.
She now has a legal animal sanctuary and so now her disabled turtles can stay!
