I have a ? for the Dumerils Breeders

Locolizard Sep 11, 2007 11:19 AM

I recently had my first litter of dumerils and had a very different looking one in the litter and I was curious if anyone has ever seen a Dumeril with this coloration?
Thanks for any help in advance! And yes before you ask, it is slightly a runt and had some cord when born but has since fallen off, and it has shed fine and is looking great and healthy although slightly smaller than its siblings. And he is the only one out of 17, no slugs or stills all healthy babies, with this color.

Cheers,
Mark Miller

Mark -

It sure looks pretty wild and different to me. It actually looks like a Sanzinia was thrown into the mix. I haven't worked with Dumerils for years, but it looks like you might have a new project to play with.

I will be interested in what others have to say.

Congrats!

There is something really special with that little one! He has breed Dumeral Boa's quite a few times and he said he's had some little runts that that never showed that coloring before. I say there is something genetic with that. Very hypo looking to me. You would be out of your mine to let that one go!
Congrats

It looks similar to Jasons Arancio Dumerils, the "hypo" produced by Kevin Hanley which Jason purchased, I've also got one that looked like that as a baby, but his pattern is a bit broken up, and snakeman97??? from the dumerils forum has one also. Very cool, congrats. Here's a pic of my male, he's an adult now and as you can see the strong orange has faded some but side by side his color stands out just like your new baby does there. I may try to breed him this year. I took some time off with the Dumerils because I was getting overrun!!!

Hey, Mark!
Actually, I have. I produced one back in 02 I think that had very similar colors or was maybe even more yellow. Also, there's a guy that had a site called "dumerils.com" that produced one that he called "arancio" that was also a very similar trait. For me, the male that fathered the litter had some yellow tints to him, but the baby was YELLOW.
I was going to try to isolate the trait and prove it out, but ended up moving and selling all of my dumeril's.
Before I moved, however, I produced 3 dumeril's litters in about 12 or 13 months. I'd recommend you keep the baby and see what happens. Since I've seen it several times, I imagine it's some kind of genetically heritable trait.
Beautiful snake though! Good for you!
Please keep us posted. I'd really like to know how that story ends since I didn't do it for myself.
Aaron
