How to get Easterns into the rodents?

RZL36 Sep 11, 2007 02:27 PM

Hello,

I have two sirtalis males that are getting pretty big and I want to get them off of fish ASAP. However, should I scent live or f/t? My problem with f/t is that garters are attracted to movement, yet I have no interest in having my garters hurt by anything. Should I just scent some fuzzies, use some forceps and tease the guys till they snap?

Just need a little bit of advice on this subject. There is plenty of info about the necessity of the switch, but little in regards to the actual act.

Thanks in advance,
Rich D

Rub a fish on a pinky mouse and use the forceps to dangle it in front of the snake..
Should work.

A couple feedings like that they'll usually go onto unscented pretty quickly.

Thanks Mike. Will give it a shot and let you know of the results.

Thanks Mike

The tease feeding didn't go so well (were way too nervous for that), but I threw some fish, and some pinkies in a bowl, and they chowed down. They actually ate all of the pinkies before touching the fish. Then I threw some unscented pinkies in the bowl for kicks and they took them down (don't worry, they were no eating unsupervised). I was worried b/c they are so finicky when it comes to eating. As soon as I figure out how to upload a picture, I will share my joy.

Thanks,

Rich D
