adamjeffery Sep 11, 2007 09:04 PM

i am considering starting a breeder colony of mice and was wondering about lab supply rodent cages. i know big apple herp sells them but was wondering who else sells them? the ones im talking about are the small plastic cages with the wire bar top that you use square water bottles with.

For new ones, bigappleherp is the cheapest supplier I have found. I've bought used ones at a local reptile show for $5 with water bottles, tub and wire top. I've also bought some off ebay for around the same price, though they don't show up very often.

There are 2 sets of 2 up for sale on Ebay right now, though the shipping kills it. They are the small "shoebox" size that works with mice only, 1.2 per cage.

If you are near Arizona there is also a guy selling his whole setup, looks like over 200 cages. Local pickup only.

im definetly not lookin for 200. im lookin to just set up a small colony with maybe 5 tubs of mice with a 1.5 ratio at most per tub just enough to provide me with live pinks for the fussie ones and adults for the adults, and weanlings to sell to the local petshop(since i provide them with their snakes and advice). everything else ill just order frozen i.e fuzzies, hoppers. so ill probally go with used i did find some good used ones here in the classifieds but if i go new it will be from big apple since i have found no one cheaper online. its hard since f/t is so much easier but with the wait for the order and supplier might not have the proper size i need. i feel their is a need for a small colony but at this point im just tossing the idea around
thanx again
