It's been a long time...

It's been around 5 years since I sold off my collection of reptiles . Recently though, a friend called me needing me to go to his house and remove some eggs from his burms enclosure as he didn't know what he was doing. Anyway, they were baking in there completely rotten for a couple days. It was a shame. I basically saved the eggs I thought were OK, set up one of those old school fish tank incubators with the water and bricks, and was on my way.

Just got a call the other day that 3 of them hatched. They're albino. 1 has only a single eye and the other 2 are apparently fine.

As a gift, I get to choose one of the healthy animals! I'm pretty stoked as I haven't been able to finally get a "pet" snake in forever that has nothing to do with being obsessed with the hobby and breeding projects, etc.

The snakes haven't had their first shed yet..I wonder, do you think I can pop them easily to sex them or should I just order a probe set? (can't seem to find mine)

I'll post some pictures shortly. I have a 6ft vision in my basement that I'll probably use for when the snake is a year old then maybe build something larger for later on.

Anyway very excited and wanted to share as I'm sure I'll be posting here more often now.

I used to post here YEARS ago...mostly here and in the Dart frog forum.
Thanks

D

We were out of the hobby for about 8 years and got back in last year like gang busters (we currently have over 120 snakes).

As far as popping or probing, do what you feel comfortable with. I don't know your experience level, but a baby can be popped right out of the egg.

Good luck.

Even though I wasn't an active member here when you posted I'd still like to welcome you back to the forum & into the "keeper" world. Welcome back!

As for sexing those babies, I agree with Randy (artincales), they can be popped fresh out of the eggs. That is, if you've got that "popping" touch, which I don't have. I can usually do it but it takes some doin'. I've seen some practically just touch the snake's tail & "pop" it goes, they're just that good at it. LOL!

I much prefer popping over probing, anytime.

See ya around!
