Beardie and mouse, happily ever after?

abstractcypher Aug 21, 2003 12:49 PM

Hey again all. I have a question for the expert beardie keeper. Theoreticaly, could a mouse live in a 110 gallon aquarium with a beardie provided the beardie shows no interest in eating it, and vice versa.

The mouse would have an elevated hide out, a clubhouse if you will, to get away too. Stocked with tons of food and water, so as it'll never go hungry.

The mouse would have been taken to the vet and checked for any possible parasites or disease, and thouroughly tick and mite free.

This is just a hypothetical question, but i'm very interested in knowing. Any insight would be great. Thanks

Raymond

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

These two creatures aren't naturally friends in "the wild" so I wouldn't risk it in captivity.

well, this happens with snakes so i;m sure it could with BD's.
the rat or whatever will chew up and eat the snake while it is sleeping, rats have been known to even kill snakes much larger then them in this situation, so i would bet it could happen here

I think the beardie would get chewed up. I also think there's no way that the beardie would NOT think about eating the mouse. Beardies seem to be pretty much programmed to chomp down on anything they think they can cram in their gullets.

You're joking right?

Putting a mouse in an enclosure of any reptile is not a good ideal. For one, the higher temperatures probably cook your mouse in short order, two, the lizard may try to eat the mouse and with bearded dragons, who could choke to death if they try to eat a mouse. Three, in a panic the mouse can severely injury your dragon, or worse.

Put the mouse in it's own home.
