If your a culturalist or collector, Its damn good to be able to have an interest in wild things.
Its important to be knowegeable and concerned about what will keep you from the pleasure of your interests. Well i'm on the stump tonight to try and get more of you active in protecting your interest in herps, and by doing so protecting another important cause. One of the biggest concerns that will limit herping in the future is the destruction of habitat. The habitat that is being destored at an alarming rate is Rainforest being turned into agribusiness land. Giant tracks of land are being turned into soy and palm oil plantations. These are not only reducing native herp habitats they threaten the total biodiversity of the area and through the brunning of the forest release vast amounts of carbon in the air resulting in Global warming as well as forcing local comunities, often indigetus people out. The worst and biggest companies doing this YES you guest in are American. Companies like Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) Bunge and Cargill. Write them, e mail them, buy their stock and force them to be more responsible,.(do all of them). This is only one thing that will keep you from enjoying herps and you can learn and work on those too. But if there is no habitat theres no herps to enjoy.
One stump grinder.
