A Sunglow and the Arab that could.....

RyanHomsey Sep 12, 2007 05:09 PM

Both of these animals shed within the last week or two. The sunglow is on her 3rd or 4th shed. The arabesque is on his/her second. I have not sexed that one because it was so tiny and I didnt want to squeeze on its tail. It would not eat for the first 3 months of its life and I thought for sure it was not going to make it. I had one other neonate that did the same thing, a sunglow, that has also pulled through for me. Although the sunglow will only eat live... this little arab is taking F/T fuzzy mice. From its tail size, I think its a male. I was extremely impressed with his coloration after he came out of this second shed.

First up is the female sunglow

And the arab

to get the arabesque to eat?

Was it just a matter of waiting it out?

just kept making feeding attempts. I would switch it up from rats / mice / ft / live. With the one that got the arab to eat I was very aggressive with the fuzzy mouse... rubbing it on the boas tail and bouncing it around quite a bit. Eventually the boa gave out a little hiss then did a defensive strike... I think that got the taste in its mouth... the next strike was a feeding response and he/she has eaten great ever since.
