ny snake laws

zaccaryus Sep 12, 2007 07:56 PM

hello,
I really love boa constrictors. I had two in high-school and I was very fond of them. So I have graduated from college and am back in the hobby but Im gonna just keep a blue tongue skink until I upgrade a little- anyways- I was horrified about this New york state law about large boidsI am so upset that large pythons cannot bne kept- I mean numerically they do no more damage than small dogs- [bleep]en sorcery-Long story short- a dealer at the ny metro show didnt even now about the boa laws in n y- this is horrible for the hobby and scares me for the future which should be ensured like any hobbty-
Zach

I was under the impression that you needed a permit with any snake over 8 feet or something- for some reason- best to you- have fun with your snakes-I noticed the Albinos went down thousands of dollars- best

The ban is for Boids in excess of 10 feet....then they just need to have a permit for them...But Most Boas are less than 8 feet so you would be fine getting one. Some BCC Boas get bigger but even they are very rarely over 10 feet.

Andy, is that for all of NY state or only NYC?

I was under the impression that the 5 boroughs of NYC banned all Boids. But that for the rest of the state the only Boids included were Burmese Pythons, Reticulated Pythons, Amethystine Pythons, African Rock Pythons, and Green Anacondas.

I believe that is for ALL of NY. I'll see if I can find my copy of the bill that passed.
