Cutting the egg open?

mavh2 Sep 13, 2007 12:02 AM

Not really cutting egg open just putting a slit in egg to see what is inside. I would check and make sure not to cut any veins.

I have 8 eggs now and today is day 45 in the incubator. I wanted to know if it is to early to cut the eggs open?
I'm excited to see if I got the albino's i've been waiting for.

ALSO....

What is your opinion on cutting eggs open before they hatch?

In my opinion, that's too early! I have heard of people doing it but I usually wait until the first snake starts to break through then I will cut out the rest of the eggs to see what's inside ... for me.. usually around 55-60 days...

Between day 30 and 40 you can candle the eggs and see if you have any albinos or not.

By now their patterns and coloring should be fairly apparent - you should be able to tell if they are albinos just by candling.

Especially if you have never done it before...........a few forum members have tried it this year and ended up killing the babies inside. Just let them be and wait it out.......if you absolutly have to do it........wait until the first couple babies pip on their own so you at least know they are full term and the veins inside the eggs are shrinking downand not stuck up on the inside of the shells......that way if you happen to nick one it would not be life threatening....

But in my opinion.......wait it out......there is nothing like opening the incubator one day to see that beautiful white and yellow head poking out!!!

Then I don't see a problem, I manually pipped our Jungle Carpet eggs this last season, if your within a couple of days from them pipping, I don't see a problem with it, you of course don't want to manually pip them to early, and be very careful, but I have seen many people do it, and all the babies I opened up turned out awsome....

Of course I didn't make perfect cuts, as this was also my first time, but I was VERY careful, and everything turned out ok. It is cool when dealing with morphs to take a peak a couple of days before they hatch, I agree...I can't wait till the day I am in that position, I for sure will take a peak...but then again, beig surprised is cool too...I think the biggest thing is wait till a few days before you think they are going to hatch and be very careful, and you should have any problem.

NO patience at all.....

...I waited 10 years to BUY an amel.......

......some eggs take 60 to 69 days if your thermometer is wrong.....

cut it....you may kill it.......?

........I don't cut at 55......

wait till 2 pip then cut the rest.....

"What is your opinion on cutting eggs open before they hatch?"

Since you asked for opinions, here's mine:

Don't cut them. It's more exciting to wait until they hatch to see what you have. Good luck with them.
