is it possible to tame rhinos or I had to be enough lucky to acquire placid specimens? Can I expect they'll tame growing up or what? Feel free to suggest me links if the subject had been already treated.
Thanks
Stef

including Cyclura bite because they are afraid. Small ones are usually more frightened than larger ones because they have more enemies. The more you interact with the lizard the calmer it will become as it realizes your not going to hurt it. Don't force yourself on it by picking it up constantly etc. Remember when you pick it up and it reacts violently its because the lizard thinks your going to kill and eat it. Use common sense and paitience and most over time will get quite tame and personable. The one in the below pic will come up to be scratched and if you sit will climb onto your lap. I've had many including this one that while I'm servicing the cage I simply sit it outside and let it explore. I'm NOT suggesting that any of you do that because unless you really understand the lizards some might run off. You CAN'T allow that with any tame lizard just some. The key is being in tune enough to know the ones you can. I am not so eloquent with words to be able to explain the distinction between ones you can and the ones you can't..Hope this helps. If you want to call me for more info its no problem...TC
it helps me out a lot, thanks very much for your personal experience.
As far now I'm keeping 2.2 10 months old C.c.cornuta in a 2 m x 2 m. 1 m. cage. When I walk in just in order to clean they don't run away afraid till I get too close. They usually eat the vegetables i leave in front of them, but they won't eat if I offer them by hands. I'd like very much to have tame rhino adults, by the way I like them so much that it doesn't care so much, the main thing is that they'll be healty specimens that eventually breed.
Thanks TC
My best regards
Stef
to feed them by hand dropping the food closer and closer until they take it. Once they will take it from your hand attempt to touch them not pick them up. To have them allow you to carry them around involves an enourmous amount of trust and time. Soon you realize you will NOT be able to keep them all together. As they get older the males will not tolerate each other and you will have big problems...TC
yes TC I know, I'm just keeping them all together because they are a bit more than babies. The breeder suggested me to keep all in the same cage, instead of each for couple, because he told me that in the next 2 years they will choose each other pairing in couples, just in order to improve the compatibility. I'm already building up the adult cages.
Thanks a lot
Thats correct and good luck...TC

I think it's possible. However I've had my female since she's been 3 months old and have done every thing to try and tame her. I eventualy gave up and excepted her the way she is.
2yrs. wait till they are 2 yrs old. there usually is a big change, they mellow out. takes lots of patience but its worth the wait
Thanks! I'll not give up! The chance to rise up tame rhino just worth the trying I guess.
Cheers
Stef
it is well worth the wait, i have a male taht is 4 yrs old and is dog tame, will coem to you if you go outside in his domain will sit on your lap, will let you pick him up, walk around with him on your shoulder, good with other pets, cats dogs and such, great with people he has never seen before, good with large crowds of people... i have a younger rhino at the age of 1.5 yrs and is almost the same way, i belive its the visual that she saw me interacting with my other rhinos and realized real fast that i wasnt a threat,.... but ive had few Physco's
