Future Purple Passion project

Kerby... Sep 13, 2007 11:50 AM

Although I will be breeding my double hets (lavender & hypermelanistic) next year, and hopefully I will get that 1/16 that shows both recessive genes at the same time......

I will also be breeding these in 2 years to prodcue some more double hets that will hopefully produce some awesome purple pasions as well.....only time will tell.

Most adult (not sub-adult) Lavenders (not the hypos) turn "whiter" and lighten up. The babies are always darker/purple as hatchlings. So my Lavenders are definitely different than albinos as adults...but they aren't as pretty as when they were a baby.

I will keep posting pics of the Lavender spot/stripe as she gets older. I am hoping that the solid chocolate and the almost solid lavender will produce some nice Purple Pasions....we shall see...darn, another project..LOL

That's interesting banding - yellow on top and fading to a cream as it hits the side.

That's the exact opposite of the wild phenotype here in Redding, CA.

And common with most cal kings in Arizona.

And a lot of my captive bred cal kings are like that.

The first pic is a het lavender with a WC (normal) Redding father.
The second pic is a WC Redding.

I seem to have trouble capturing it on camera - the yellow is slightly more intense than in the photos (but not super intense).

My (escaped) locality female had much brighter yellow than the locality male shown - but I think if I remember, so did my males when they were young.
