Pituophis books

Lee McMurtry Sep 13, 2007 04:04 PM

This book: The professional keeper's guide to bullsnakes, pine snakes & gopher snakes
by Kenneth Kelly (Author)
Is for sale on Amazon... a used copy for $200.00!
I like books and everything, but I could get a pair of nice snakes for that! Has anybody seen this book? Is it worth looking around to see if I can find a cheaper copy?
Anybody know of anything else that might still be in print?

Do you have any idea what the content is like? I had no idea any book with that sort of title existed...
I have to say, it would have to be a brand new book with some heavy duty peer reviewed information for me to consider paying that sort of money. Personally, I think most husbandry issues can be settled/ taken care of here or with a few well placed phone calls. Most relevant studies can be found in some form online or are reasonably available at university libraries. Interesting, I hope to hear more. Thanks for the tip.

I bought that off ebay last year for about $15 bucks, and it was a borderline deal. The whole book is question and answer format, and not that great otherwise,IMO. 60 pages long.

it's just a little soft cover guide that is frankly, not worth more than 8 bucks... So, save yourself the money. Saw that in a pile of books on ebay, sold for 25. Also saw Stull's book, Relationships of Pituophis and other diff stuff on Pits...that sold for a mere 30 bucks...guess people were sleeping... If I were you, get Stull's book. You can get it brand new from Zoobook Sales. Otherwise, wait a little while yet. Supposed to be a good Pituophis book coming out...

Hey Russ,
How have you been. Long time no see. How are the snake and other critters? Drop me a line some time buddy.

Take care,
Jeff Port

I wonder if that price is a typo - or if the seller is hoping a high price will fool someone into thinking it is worth having.

I've seen some stuff go on eBay for considerably more than you can buy it brand spanking new.

In fact there was an out of print boxed set for a musician who had a cult following but never mainstream following - it was out of print for several years but BMGMusic club still had many copies of the boxed set in stock. I was buying them and selling them at double until some other sellers saw what it was going for and then the market was flooded with them.

Sometimes people are too trusting in the value the seller places on an item, and it only takes one sucker to make a nice buck.

I suspect it is a typo though. Seller meant $20 or something.
