Totally bummed

antelope Sep 13, 2007 06:59 PM

Was cleaning and feeding this eve and ran across a clutch I overlooked in the striped meahlmorrim's hide. They were hard and totally dried up. I hatched a perfect clutch from a w.c. emoryi, 8 for 8 with 3 feeding right off the bat, but the meahllies were the last cage. A rookie mistake for sure, I didn't even consider the fact that it was possible. I will be ready next year with a laying box. 11 eggs and one or more coulda been striped, DANGIT! I feel like crap, not that I lost possible stripers but that I didn't even take the time to check the hide, which they are in all day long, I never see them out except rarely at night. Hard lesson learned, Excuse me now, I am going to flagellate myself!

Hey Todd, go easy on yourself. Lesson learned, move on and do it better next time. Congrats on the eight babies you successfully hatched. To get an entire clutch of eggs to hatch out healthy is an accomplishment itself.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. I did the exact same thing with some Chuckwalla eggs this week. 6 eggs straight to the trash...

Sorry Todd. That sucks.
If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing with mandarin this year. Luckily I found them while they were still good. The female looked as if she was just starting to swell and I thought she still had a pre egg laying shed to go. As you can see in this pic I didn't even have a egg box in the cage yet. Later, Randy W.
