ok, it takes a little while for them to settle down and eat properly, I would reccomend that you take out all crickets, then offer one cricket. if not eaten in like 15 minutes take it out and try again in a few hours. dont overwhelm it with too many crickets, and dont leave them in. after baby gets used to eating the one, you will have easier time and can offer 2 then 3 just so long as you dont overdo it.
If baby doesnt eat for day or two dont panic its not unusual. just keep a eye on them so they dont look like scarecrow. oh and I offer finely chopped greens often even if they dont eat them. That way they have plenty of choice and fluids.
The crickets should be no longer than 1/4" for a hatchling.
I have one that seems afraid of crickets also.
What is your dragon's enclosure like? I think he could be afraid of his own reflection possibly too. I can't figure mine out but he is doing OK. He's almost 6" now while his clutchmates are over 8 1/2". They were all hatched August 7th or 8th.
Here's what I would do. If he is in a glass enclosure I'd cover at least 3 sides with brown paper or plain cardboard. I'd put it on the inside of the glass so that it will block his reflection. Mine is in a 20 Long and he is blocked for all but maybe a 6" window. Of course he should be housed alone.
3 times a day I'd feed him. Don't leave the crickets in there full time. Take everything out and then put in 2 crickets. If he doesn't eat them in 20 to 30 minutes take the crickets out and try again later. If he eats one or both, then replace what he has eaten.
I have been feeding mine baby silkworms. He seems to love them. The only problem if you don't breed them yourself, is that if you buy the smallest size they grow too big very quickly.
Hi
i always do them in freezer til they just stop moving.
it wil take min for small cricks .
i look every time in frezer every 20 sec til they just stop moving.
then i dut them and put 1,2,3 cricks in it.
the cricks come alive very slowly and then walk slowly so they r easy to catch for thm.
