Getting through to people

PHRatz Sep 14, 2007 10:03 AM

It feels good when you find out you did get through to someone.

The mother of one of the kids from my yearly summer class called this week because something was wrong with Big Mama their largest box turtle.
This is bad.. I met the mother on parents day, I actually don't remember her, don't remember the kid either, but I DO remember Big Mama the turtle LOL!
She called me for advice, asked me what to do, where to go, etc. etc.
I told her what I thought then she called me back yesterday after she had taken Big Mama to the vet I'd recommended & had gotten her treated.
This woman had actually said that she didn't care what it cost because she didn't want to lose the turtle.
That's so refreshing because generally people want me to tell them ways to avoid paying a vet.

Big Mama has the beginnings of a respiratory infection so was given the appropriate treatment & it sounds like she's going to be fine because her keeper is committed to making it that happen.
Nice woman, made my day!

Congratulations!

>>Congratulations!

LOL Thank you.
Today I got a postcard in the mail from the vet's office thanking me for the referral.
This turned out to be a win-win all the way around.

Its so nice to hear a story like this one.
Last year I took in a 6" boxie from the humane shelter and advertised it as a lost pet. Whew - the responses I got!
I was willing to place him w/someone but there wasn't a single call that didn't plan on housing him in an aquarium.
Thanks,patsy

Patsy I had a cat around here that was left behind when next door neighbors moved away & left the cat. When I saw it eating out of garbage cans I started feeding it, I couldn't stand to see it scrounge for food that way.
I'm allergic to cats, I couldn't keep it so I advertised it & had one person tell me she wanted the cat as soon as she could get rid of her dogs!
I told her no.. finally did find a home for the cat but when we caught our lovebird then the cockatiel & found that nobody anywhere was advertising for their lost birds I thought to myself why should I run a found ad if they don't care enough to run a lost ad?
I have 2 birds because I didn't want to go through what I went through with the cat!
People who want to take found pets can be really scary people!

Me too! That was the last time for me to put in an add. I hope someday to bring the 5 boxies I now have to some safe haven on the mainland. They do alright here but I would never hibernate them and we travel alot.
