painting melamine?

quanno Aug 21, 2003 02:28 PM

I am building a terrarium for my whites and i wanted to make the back of the tank colorful so it wouldnt be just white. I was told latex paints would come off with water since they are water based and an oil based paint would be better. I will just be splotching it on kind of like camo... so what should i look for in a paint so that i dont make my frogs sick? I will let it dry for about a week before they go in so there arent any fumes in there. so, are there any certain types of paint or elements in paint to look for or avoid? thanks a lot!

I think any true oil paint could make your frogs sick.

Maybe your best bet it to go to the art store and get some of the names of the big companies that make lots of paint and call them and inquire over the safety of individual products.

I've used T-shirt paint to paint on the outside of one of my wood enclosures, but that's it. And I really didn't find out if it was safe further than looking at the outside which has a non-toxic label, but I can't think of many paints other than water-based paints that would work. Good luck.
