Busted tail. . . . . . .

fisherk2 Aug 21, 2003 03:03 PM

Hi everyone! I work at PETCO (I know, PETCO sucks butt), and my main job is to take care of the herps. Today I came in after being off for two days, and one of the baby green iguanas had snapped his tail, and it was just dangling by some dead skin. I snipped it off with some scissors, cleaned it up with iodine, and put some sort of triple action ointment on it. I got all of this stuff out of the employee first-aid kit. Anyway, what I need to know is, did I do things right? I've never had to mend a broken tail before, and I wasn't sure what to do. If I did something wrong, how can I do a better job next time?

Thanks for your input!

sounds good...but do you know *why* the tail fell off in the first place? let us know how the little one heals ;oD

I don't know for sure how it happened. I came back from having a day off and I had to repair sick/broken critters, and clean out several dead ones.

The Best thing you can do is keep "iguanas for dummies" handy for ALL employees that handle the igs to read. Its your all around reference book and has oodles of helpful information in it. The tail will grow back Keep him clean and dry (aside from his normal humidity) and keep iodine and 3x on it Good Luck.
