Metallic Baird's laying bad eggs!!!

oxyjansen Sep 15, 2007 04:50 PM

My c/b pair of Baird's were brumated this past winter and have been breeding this year. They are about 3yo, and the female is very heavy bodied and about 5ft. She laid her first clutch ever 1 month after mating, and all the eggs were flabby and infertile. Its been a month since that 1st clutch, and she just laid another clutch of flabby infertile eggs.

Any idea what might be going on here? I have lots of breeding experience with Gonyosoma, and a few other species, and I just can't figure out why she is laying the eggs so early?

Thanx in advance for any assistance.

Mine wouldn't go until they were 4 years old. I bet next year they will all be just fine.
Don't fret it.
At least she wasn't eggbound.

I have lost 2 hognose to egg binding, so yes i am glad this is not the case. Good to know about the 4 year olds, so I'll cool them again this year, and hope for the best next year!

Thanx for the info!
