Question on Super Hypo breeding

tcdrover Sep 15, 2007 07:26 PM

Will there be a noticable difference in the babies if I breed a
super hypo to an albino vs a sunglow?

The sunglow would make a difference, right?

Another question, if a dbl het for sunglow is bred to a regular
boa 100% het for albino would that produce sunglows?

25% would be sunglows, or less?

Super salmon (AKA super hypo) x albino -->
all babies salmon heterozygous albino

Super salmon (AKA super hypo) x sunglow (AKA salmon albino) -->
1/2 salmon heterozygous albino
1/2 super salmon heterozygous albino

Some of the super salmons might be a bit brighter than some of the other super salmons and the salmons. But there is no way to tell ahead of time how much, if any. The 50% probability super salmon het albino is probably worth more than a salmon het albino (double het sunglow).

Yes, sunglows can come out of this mating, but the expected fraction is 1/8 (12.5%) rather than 1/4 (25%). This is because both parents are het albino, so 1/4 of all the babies would be expected to be albinos. And 1/2 of all the babies would be expected to be salmon. Sunglows are both salmon and albino, so 1/2 of the 1/4 albino is 1/8 sunglow.

Hope that helps.
