Iguana- Heating and lighting

zefdin Sep 15, 2007 08:47 PM

I am asking this question for a friend, I do not keep Iguana's. He just bought this pet, and I want to make sure he is keeping him in a healthy environment, I am concerned for this pet...

If you guys could please tell me what kind of heating and lighting his pet needs?

Is a heat rock ok?

Do you need special lighting to convert D3 calcium in Iguanas?

What is the average teamperature the aquarium should be, (ie; hot side / cold side)?

Should he suppliment the Iguanas food?

Are they only herbivores?

Any info you guys couyld provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

~Alan

Heat rocks are no good if your freind would like to keep his iguana warm without light try a cerimac heat emiter bulb.
Iguanas do need special lighting I recomend zoo-meds powersun uv t-rex has a similar bulb both bulbs give out heat and utrla violet light.
They need this type of light to process vit D and calcium that should be supplemented with there food about 3 times a week.
Iguanas are mostly vegatarians and need lots of dark greens like collards, turnips, mustard greens, watercress, dandialian greens, shred up some veggies like sweet potato, or squash and you got a great iguana dish.
O if your friend can get his iguana outside that's always the best. If not those light bulbs work great and temps I would say 85-90 in the basking area not to drop lower than 70-75 at night
