Substrate.

I have been using brown butcher paper for the floor of my 5 foot African Rock Pythons cage. I want to use something that I can spot clean and then replace every few weeks. Been looking at a few different substrates and came across this ground english walnut shell that is like sand, but larger. Its suppost to be harmless if ingested. Has anyone ever used this stuff or have an opinion on it? Or suggestions on other substrates to use. I'm trying to stay away from bark/mulch.

I wouldn't recomend the walnut. First of all it sticks to food items better than any other substrate I have ever seen. I do not think anything is digestible in the amounts that this covers your average damp FT food item. If you do use it, feeding in a separate container is a must. I personally dont even think it looks that good.

I would seriously recomend shredded aspen, carefresh paper bedding, or cypress mulch.

I used to use mulch for my Morelia and aspen for my Anteresia/Aspidites....I switched to paper a while back due to ease of cleaning. I noticed that although I'd spot clean, there was urine that I'd miss when cleaning feces and urates. I feel paper products are much easier and encourage more thorough cleaning.

I agree with captnemo, paper is easy and spot cleaning is asking for hygiene problems.
