royalkreationz Sep 16, 2007 01:35 AM

Some of the pricees are a little out dated, but it does give hope to some that are looking to make this hobby a business.

~ ASK ME ABOUT MY BALLS ~

royalkreationz Sep 17, 2007 12:10 AM

I know it's an older article, it's just nice to see snake people get recognized for their hard work. I like it when good things are said about our animals that promote a positive image, unlike some of the article about children being attacked bya 20ft. ball python and crazy stuff like that we have seen posted here in the last few weeks. I guess it gives us greater credibility. Generally, I feel that people think I am crazy when I tell them that my hobby is the captive propgation of ball pythons. When people see an article like that, they realize the hard work, dedication, and love for the animals that most breeders have, and the fact theat they are so beautiful and not just some normal snake. The first thing that comes to mind in this area of the country is rattlesnakes. I could go on for a while as to how I like the positive image the article portrays, be it old or new.

I can show you a picture and article of a 57' Chevy from 1984, the only difference there is the 57's value has appreciated every year since then.

The TigerII Retic picture was hot....and the snake was nice too..Lol.

DZBReptiles Sep 16, 2007 12:31 PM

Duh! they don't make them any more. But I will bet you any thing you want that the owner of a classic Chevy never woke up in the morning to find that there little old '57 had reproduced three little '57's just like it.

He wouldnt want it to produce 3 little ones..it would make the original that much less valuable. You make my point..no? I know what you are saying though...

Besides, if the other guy, or anybody else, is holding onto a 4 year old article for inspiration....I dont know what to say??

toshamc Sep 16, 2007 11:13 AM

Seriously? That article gives you hope? It's 3 years old and in 3 short years the genetic stripe has gone from $20K to $2K - now if that's not a reality check I don't know what is - next year they'll be selling for $700. Sad - IMO.

If you combine the recessives, they are still worth that. That is why I am only working with recessives and getting rid of everything else. I am only going to work with pastels and pins. As soon as i get pastels het pied and orange ghost, I will have no normal pastels, and I want albino pins. My main goal is albino pieds and caramel pieds, and I bet you can't touch those for $20k. I don't know if I have even seen any for sale yet.

You can price them at 20K, but, who is to say anyone will pay 20K??

If an Albino Pied HAS been sold at this point, it was done away from the prying eyes of the public.
If one's been sold, did it even fetch 20K in TODAY'S market??

Hmmm.......

well let's go with a snake that we alomst KNOW was sold for 20k the pastel super stripe. granted it is a combo that involves 3 traits but two of them are $250 animals and the combo for them is roughly $750-$1000 and the third ingredient has been posted for around $3500. Yes I know if anyone wanted to produce them this comming season they would have had to produced or bought a yb pastel female 2-3 yrs ago and the price was tremendously higher. now think if that same person wanted to produce albino pieds or caramel pieds think of the investment involved with that. Last year pairs of double hets for albino pied was averaging 10k and I don't think I've seen more than a couple double hets for caramel pied. What I'm saying is there are a $20k snakes out there and there should be for at least a few more years. it's just gonna take some work to produce them.

FYI- BB. I know of someone who purchased a proven breeder simple recessive Lav Albino for $20K at Daytona. I, myself recently purchased a rare double recessive for $25K.
When you consider that some projects like "double recessives", and those who are thinking even bigger & outside the box - "Triple recessives"; think about how long those projects take to produce. I know of someone that had the double hets to produce Caramel Glows and missed the 1 in 16 for 4 years!
Triple recessive projects could span over a decade before you actually hit the morph that you were trying to produce. You mean to tell me that people that have put that much time and effort into a project should expect less??? If anything they should be more!

Every market wether its collectable coins, cars or real estate go through market corrections. The only difference between those and a breeding business is that we are producing more animals every day. You know that old supply and demand thing. Any time this topic comes up I have to just laugh. If you are unhappy with the state of the market get out while you still can. But this shouldn't be about money anyway. It should be about doing something that you enjoy and have a passion to do. I am sure there are alot of people who have spent countless years doing this and have never been able to turn it in to a career, but they still do it. And they don't go on to a forum and [bleep] every time the prices go down.

Jeff

P.S. I know people that spend hundreds of dollars a year on toys. They have boxes and boxes of them packed away hoping that someday they will be worth lots of money. Who am I to piss on there dreams.

royalkreationz Sep 16, 2007 12:52 PM

I agree. I have been keeping ball pythons for 14 years, and I dang sure never mae any money yet. Maybe one day I can pay for my hobby. My wife would sure be happy about that.

Right! I look at it ike a challenge, sort of like growing a Bosai tree... you spend hours, months and years getting things to look and be they way you want with your collection nd its never complete or done growing..
