RI in boas..

Bergmantis Sep 16, 2007 09:01 AM

I have noticed this a couple times now. One of my boas might start to develop an RI but in about a week, the little mucus there is in the nose dries up and they shed it off soon after. Is this their way of recovering from the RI? It never seems to worsen and goes away quick. The only thing that will worsen is the dried mucus becomes more apparant the longer it takes for them to shed, although they will shed within a couple weeks.

I've had the same thing happen with 2 of my boas. At first, I thought it was an RI too. I took them to the vet and had cultures done. They came back negative. The symptoms went away after they shed.

It could be that your boa just "looks" like it's getting an RI, but it's just stressed out. Maybe the stress is caused by the shed cycle.

If you think your boa is getting an RI take it to a qualified Reptile Vet. Have them do a culture to see if it actually has a RI.
