Cool (OT)

flavor Sep 16, 2007 02:27 PM

I have quite a few garter snakes in my backyard for some reason. Maybe they know it's a snake-friendly zone. Anyway, last week I was mowing the lawn and I almost hit one. I moved it out of the way. Not 2 minutes later, I almost hit another one. It looked so cool, I had to catch it and take a picture.

It's like a lavender phase or something. I was way tempted to keep it just to see what the thing looked like when it grew up. I set it up in a little cage overnight. But you know what... I just have too damm many snakes So I let it go back in the yard.

I'm a big garter snake fan anyway. But this thing was really really pretty.

That is a very cool find. Hopefully you'll catch it again when it grows up so we'll know what it looks like as an adult

Really cool looking garter!!!

No snakes in my backyard but I do have a colony of California slender salamanders living in my back yard, find them every year, mostly in the wet months.

Not so great pics (from March this year) but you get the idea, these were under a piece of wood I leave out there for them to hide under. The bright thing is a quarter for size reference!

Mike,

So what chromatophore do you think... ah, just kidding.

That's an awesome garter snake, and I think it's great
you released it. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Thanks,
Ed

That looks nothing like what i think of as a typical Garter. AND Wild Caught mutations are great for the morph breeders. I'm sure a garter breeder would have wanted this guy if it was albino or even hypo....

Hypo BRB's and hypo GTR's....????

Thanks for the picts, BHH
