Is this a mojave?

marshallvt Sep 16, 2007 04:52 PM

I am interested in opinions on this snake. Do you think it is a mojave, phantom, or a vin russo het lucistic? Or none of the these.

Thanks
Marshall

But raise it up, prove it out, and make the doubters wrong....

Good luck

Looks just like a normal to me.

EmberBall Sep 16, 2007 05:39 PM

I think it looks like a nice light normal, very nice snake, breed a nice Pastel or Spider to it and see what happens. I am not sure why you think it looks like a Mojave, it looks pretty much nothing like a Mojave. Here is a Mojave so you can compare. None the less, the snake is a keeper.

Thanks for taking the time to look. When I compare her to some of my other mojaves I see some of the pattern but the color is all wrong. She laid six eggs this year for me with a lesser as the sire. I was checking on the clutch this morning and found 2 of the six had pipped. One of the heads was normal looking with the other being white. So I know something is going on with her. I am just trying to figure out what. The best I can figure she is a really poor mojave. I though maybe a phantom but after checking out the pictures on the RDR site I don't think she is that. I did cut the remaining four eggs to find 2 that don't quite look like normals but don't look like mojaves either and 2 more white snakes. Hopefully I will know more once they are out of thier eggs.

I'm no expert but I can see why you would ask. She has a tendency to only have a single alien eye in each light side area and also to have the dark pattern widen and fade near the belly to tend to close off the light side pattern into circles. She has some of those mojave characteristics I've noticed in pics but none and particularly the color seem to be nearly as pronounced as a mojave.

I'm even less familiar with phantom and Vin Russo high lemon yellows other than to known that they are more toward the normal looking end of the spectrum. Not sure if maybe they have more normal bellies too or if that entire group has the wide white belly like the mojave.

So how soon you going to hatch eggs from her to find out?

Larry_Suttles Sep 16, 2007 07:46 PM

Congrats and the white snakes. I've been waiting for people to start popping out white snakes with all the lessers floating around breeding the aberrant out their.

I don't see any mojove either but I do she that she has "that look" to her. That look I think is one of the keys to producing these white snakes. Usually lighter color with that rounded off pattern along with the blushings.

Hurry up and post some more pics cause thats awesome stuff

Awesome clutch. I totally would have taken her for a normal with neat pattern. Where did you get her?

I would say no on the mojave thing...they are usually very obvious with bright colors, faded sides, etc. However, she could be something like a phantom since those are relatively subtle.

Nice white snakes!

Yes. Thus the reason I said "nice white snakes" in my first post. Still doesn't make it mojave -- it doesn't look remotely like one. Thus the reason I said it could be a phantom or something else...those make white snakes too.

Of the white snake producing animals the russo hets are the most subtle of the bunch however, there are some subtle mojaves out there. Like I had said in my previous post she looks normal but the production of the white snakes is awesome sp breed her out to her offsoring that looks like her then see where it takes you..

PS. the animal I posted previously is a possible line of fires or something..It looks normal except for her bright colors.. We'll see in 09..

I will post pictures when they are out. I picked up this female in a group of 8 sub-adults back in early 05. I needed females and she was in the group. I do not remember who I got her from or her history. I can only assume she was a CH baby. She stuck out to me right away.

Nice clutch. before i ckd your post with the pics of the white snakes hatchlings i thought it looked like a normal sibling to a russo het. i have two normal siblings from a russo het to normal in my collection and they look like sister snakes to yours. maybe yours is a poor looking russo het, regardless you have some beautiful baby white balls. good luck

Yeah...hopefully one or more of the non-white hatchlings will tell you more about her.

Congrats on your discovery. They're very nice!...more pics!!
