To Terry Haller and TnK: pics I promised

DrasticPlastic Sep 16, 2007 08:54 PM

Here are the pictures of my Bolivian "male" that I said I would post this weekend. Let me know if you think you can give me a good idea from the spurs if he's male or female from the shots, if not I'll find someone to sex him. I didn't do anything to expose the spurs other than lift up his tail while my wife took the picture, sorry I couldn't get better shots, my camera is about 3 years old and not the best. Thanks in advance for the help, I really appreciate it.

My "female" Blonde is about the same size, though the tail doesn't look as thick, and has just as prominent of spurs. I don't have other adult Bolivian females to compare with. None of my other adult female boas have as prominent of spurs, but they are all imperator.

My male Bolivian does have prominent spurs and is MUCH smaller, though he is a year younger.

While I haven't heard of a 6' male (unless yours is), I am concerned that my girl is a boy.

I did a "test". I put the male in with "her" over the summer and he showed immediate interest. And "she" shook him off.

Not likely that the much smaller male was asserting dominance over a much larger male, so I took this as a good sign. I then put "her" in with a definite adult female and there was no interest at all, not even the increased tongue flicking. So I took this as a good sign.

I would say that is a definite male. However, I only have experience with Bci and Bcc. Both of these subspecies can be easily spur sexed with great accuracy, even when very young. Either one of these two at this body size with spurs that prominent would be a male without question. I would still stand by my assertion that this is a male unless someone with Bolivian experience can share information that females of this subspecies have inherently larger spurs than are typically seen in other B.c. ssp females. Great photos and they show the spurs quite well.

I don't check the forums too much but glad to see you are still doing it. The bolivian is looking great!

Hey Alex what's been going on lately? Long time no talk. Here is a recent pic of the albino girl I got from you a while back, she's still tame as a puppy, feeding well and growing strong. Good to hear from you. Don't be a stranger around here now.
