Are hides necessary in a rack system?
-Ed
Depends on the snake, I have a few that stopped eating until I gave them their hides back when I moved them into a rack. Try it without and then if they stop eating give them a hide.
my adults don't even use them but the babies seem to appreciate having a couple places to hide. Once they stop using them I take the hides out.

I don't generally use them, but have one Ball that would not eat until I gave him one. Once the hide was in, he has eaten regularly.
I use hides in all my racks, and my snakes do use them.
I use plastic dog dishes and large flower pot saucers with holes drilled in them.
I don't know that they're needed, but the snakes seem to appreciate them.
personally i try to wean all my balls and boas off of using hides. hope this helps
