Hard Times Converting A Live Eater

CodyNolen Sep 17, 2007 06:57 AM

I tried 4 weeks, 4 attempts at feeding ft to my adult 3' bp.

Failed big time.

The last attempt i tried puting it in a temp enclosure, same thing.

The snake comes out of it's hide and becomes active but seems to show no intresest in the feed item.

Tips?

Adults can be hard to convert, I still have a few that will only eat live. Are you trying pre kill or frozen thaw? I have seen it is easier to try prekill first and if frozen thaw you need to make sure it is at least 98 degrees, try a light to warm the fur up. Adults if you really want just keep trying.

i got mine off of live recently and he was stubborn...at first i ran a frozen mouse under water until thawed and offered and he didnt even show interest...i noticed if i left the frozen mouse out to thaw all day and then heat it up in water AFTER its room temp he started showing interest but wouldnt take....i think its definitly a temp thing...it felt good when he finally took it from my tongs...id keep working on it

forgot to add....dunno what your method is but mine really tests my patience....it has taken close to ten minutes for him to grab it from my tongs

My method was wiggling the sm. ft rat for the bp to see for up to a minute. Then layin g it in the enclosure.

I thaw the rat next to a heat lamp that belongs to a different pet.

I thought this was the best for the certain snake cause with the live rats it would almost stalk, and hunt them. it either attacked a live rat with in a minute to 6 minutes.
