Honduran feeding Poll..

GabooNx Sep 17, 2007 12:03 PM

Wanted to know what everyone begins and ends with as far as a feeding source. For example starting neonates off with rats pups instead of pinkies to increase growth rate.

begins and ends with Mice?
OR
begins and ends with Rats?
OR
combo of the two?

Personally at least for this breeding colony I am starting off with Mice, however depending on size and food response may end up using medium rats for some of the snakes.

Hi Jason,

It was nice meeting you at the MARS show. We start with pinky mice and usually end up feeding rat pups to our adults.

Good Luck!

Hello Joe,

Was nice meeting you as well you had nice animals on display! Did you keep the vanishing or did you sell it, did your son walk away with a leo or was it a beardie?

You will be happy to know that my purchase took her first meal on Sunday a large F/T pinky(2-3 Grams)!! Good feeding response, she was still hungry after her meal but I like to start them slow after the first week of purchase. Great snake and cant wait to see what she produces for me!! I will post some pics of her tonight or tom when I find some time.

You only feed rat pups to adults, how many? You said that you breed your own feeders so maybe you are working with 30(plus)Gram rat pups?

Hey Jason,

The little man managed to get his two corn snakes sold and picked up a nice Leopard Gecko from JMG Reptile. They are pretty good guys. They even gave him a shirt. We do breed our own rodents, so we are able to pick out a good sized meal for each snake. Some prefer smaller food items and some amaze us at what they can put down. They are all different and that is why I use terms like usually and most. We don't rely on weight, so much as past experience to know what they prefer and how much of it. We don't like to push our stuff and we usually wait for three years before breeding females. We have bred a few males at two years old.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that yes we did keep the Hypo, but that was never in question.

Thanks!

I dated a Honduran girl a few years ago. She liked fried chicken.

Jason, I start with mice pinks and end with adult mice. I usually get them up to breeding size by 3 years , sometimes 2 years on the males...Joe
