DANG them shows.

OK, I went to teh show to get a few things for the shop. I saw these 2. Male and female bloodred. Not teh best I have seen, but ok. We struck a deal then he tells me they are het for motley and amel? NOT what I wanted to hear. If het for amel, then it was recently outcrossed. I would have preferred long term bloods of just bloods.

Last year I paid about $40 for a female that looked to be outstanding. Sadly those nasty little flies got in her little tub and killed her. If you recall a number of us talked about those flies in here. I no longer use sphagnum for anything here.

The 2 new bloods were $110 for both. Sorry one ahs his head buried, I just took 1 quick pic after they fed.

I think those flies are carion flies. They are indeed nasty. I had them get into a hatchling batch and they apparently laid eggs at the healing embiblical site on one of the babies and killed it. The flies always seem to appear at about egg incubation time and dissappear later in the fall. I'm sure that they over winter in the sink drains.

I knew the type, and had eggs at the time. They almost seem unstoppable. I had pest strips up and tried other things. But I was shocked they killed a snake. Although tiny the entire snake. In less than a week. There was just a makr on the paper towel. Sad to los any snake that way. And this one was a great looking baby blood too.

No eggs this year, no sphagnum which they seem to love. And checking daily on my 2 new babies. They took down their first pinkies for me very fast. That leads me to a new topic of the term "power feed"
