leo statistic

zarko Sep 17, 2007 01:29 PM

can someone with leo breeding experience share the info.
for 3 last years i havebeen breeding leos...
1 male and 3 females...
last year a had some bad baby.
this year i have been breeding my mail with all femails just once or 2 ce. and all 3 of them were laying eggs for about 5-7 times...all about 32 eggs.
eggs haches about 30 ...first and the oldes leos r perfect...but as the eggs get older form breeding time (like old sperm?!is it possible) they tend to get retarded...most of them r blind...some just died about age 10 days...
25 leos r fenomenal
2 have died on 10th day
1 was blind with rettina rectin to light..he is alive and leard to go around ...just blind
3 eggs left..dont know what is gonna be
and 3 r so so...some r gonna be ok by my valuation and at least one is gonna be not good enought ...

so over all statistic is
26 r ok
4 died or was blind
3 so so
is it normal.....i know taht 10% woud live up to first year in the wild , but is that normal for terrariumn conditions?

and how can i stop females from geting gravid all the time in succession just from one breeding with male?

thanks

first things first .

if you want them to stop laying i would just separate them and wait till the females stop laying ?..

second are your temps and humidity right ? and really i dont thin your soppose to imbreed leopard geckos so much ?..
not sure if im right or wrong thats just my opinion... need diffrent geckos. as in selective breeding....

good luck with those eggs

i have two eggs waiting to hatch they should hatch soon !/..
ive had 4 eggs hatch so far my first breeding season .. too
and a first female... she just keeps laying .. shes on her 7th clutch now and
but shes infirtle now... laying dead eggs basicly ..

thanks

I would say that there are some deletarious recessive genes in the group and I would not breed them any longer. If there are young being hatched with birth defects, then the ones that don't show them will have a 66% chance of being carriers. Without knowing if it was the male or the females or maybe all of them that carry the problem, it just isn't responsible to keep breeding them.

On another completely different tangent, if it seems that the problems occur at an increased rate over the breeding season, it is just as likely that your leos are on an insufficient diet and after bulking up for the winter, the first few lays are healthy eggs with good yoke. The longer the season goes on, the less nutrients and energy that is available for the following lays. What kind of diet are they on? If the diet is good, then I would say that my first idea is more likely.

Short answer, no this isn't normal.

they r on tenebria, crickets . latewralis and dubias....b ut most tenebria about 50% cause i use all of my food very fast...
but i can see the difference between eggs that have been layed on the begining and on the end...
i dont know about inherit defects cause their kids had their youngs and they r perfectly helthy.some r 100% inbreed by other folks on their wish.
today some young started eating...so maby it was change in weather.
so now is from 30 leos 1 is blind and one was born with deformaty.
2 died ...?no deformatis on them

thanks mate
ill keep an eye on them and star writting good diary and will get to the botom of this!!
