Baby Ball Pythons

trvlbuny May 22, 2003 08:47 AM

A very close friend of mine and his room mate both bought babies from our local petstore. We had been told they had not been fed since they had gotten them. It will be 3 weeks on Sat. since one of them was brought home and they could care less about their pinkies. Is this normal? I have heard of snakes going months without eating but since they are so little I would think they would eat. Any help out there would be nice. Thanks.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will answer, but here's muy $.02:

BP's never need to eat pinkies, they can eat a fuzzy or sub-adult mouse for their first meal. My BP will not strike prey unless it moves, so if the pinks are dead or not moving much, they may not generate much interest. Many people find that BP hatchlings respond better to live prey at first, and them switch them over to dead. Mine takes dead prey, but I have to jiggle it around before she gets interested.
