Foung Strange Species In With My Mealworms

TattooTony Aug 21, 2003 03:59 PM

I was feeding my mealworms today and saw some little something moving around in there real fast and i caught it.
It is kinda white kinda charcoal looking with black stripes evenly spaced.
2 days later it sheds its skin and now its black and looks like it has alotta legs.
Anyone have any ideas what this is.
And i caught another 1 today.
I bought the mealworms at a petshop and they scooped up all the substrate and put it in with them.
Could these be baby millipedes?
Thanks Tony

Millipedes generally look the same from the time they're hatched to adulthood as far as I know. We used to have these little black millipedes all over the place. Sounds like some kind of dermestid beetle.. How big is it?

when i found it it was about 3/16" after it shed and turned black it's about 1/4".
The 1 i found today was bigger than the first 1,about 1/4".
I dont have a clue what they are.
Thanks Tony

Can you post a picture?? That'd help alot..Though its probably harmless.. There's some types of bugs that will eat dead crickets... food matter and even waste from other insects.
