So does my baby biak. Goes under the newspaper everynight. I'm going to leave it there and see if it comes out on its own and goes back later. Maybe I bought a sandfish?

can't say for sure, but I'm wondering if the humidity is too low and the moisture from the plant's soil is providing humidity not elsewhere available. Or Perhaps the temps are too high and the soil is providing a slight cooling effect. Is this a new development, or has this always been the case? What are the temps and humidity like in the cage? Of course, I am assuming that perches are available.

the ambiant temp is 85 with the basking spot at 100. but there is a horizontal temp gradeiant, so he can move but still have a pirtch. and the ambiant humidity is at 60% most of the time, and i pretty much just dump water in the tank everyother day. i have bedabeast bedding that i change twice a month (cuz i know dumping the water can biuld bacteria) hes acctually been doing this for a while. like i said iv had him for like 2 years, and hes never shed "normally" for me.. its always in peices (hence the dumping of the water) so is there anything im doing wrong? or is he just a wierd gtp? thanx for the replies!

My opinion......bring those temperatures way down. Try your turning your basking temperatures down to 85-89 and your cool end should be around 80. These animals live in the dense forest not the desert. Avoid temperatures over 90. Your animal may be trying to cool down. Hope this helps. Joe

If you haven't had a complete shed, you should check other things as well. It sounds like there is a bit too much air flow involved. Reduce the ventilation a bit and see what happens. First, lower your teps.......100 is way out of their range.

ok thanxs guys!

I might also like to add that 60% is a bit low all the time. Something needs to be done to bring it up to 80-90% and then it slowly goes down to 60% by the time it's due for another spray. I had a chondro that had two poor sheds. He was kept on water as a substrate. After increasing the moisture in the substrate before shed time he finally had a successful shed. Since then, he's shed normally with normal levels of humdity.

any ideas on how to bring the humidity up? i have live plants in there, u waterdish with large surface area, and i dump water init, like i said. what else can i do!?

JDalbo Sep 19, 2007 11:29 PM

What kind of caging are you using, how much ventilation is there, cage dimensions, etc? If you can post some pictures of your setup it may be easier to determine the problem.

hes in a 29 gallon aquarium. as for ventalation theres a screen lid on top..i dont have pics on here yet..ill try to get some tonight and figure out how to post them.

MegF Sep 20, 2007 06:43 PM

The screen lid provides waaaay too much ventilation. You'll either have to cover part or most of it with a piece of plastic. This should help a lot.

heres the pic of the tank, and my snake.. hes shedding right now

sbcrider Sep 20, 2007 07:45 AM

Do ever spray the snake directly and watch him drink? I actually don't spray my snakes directly all that often except when they're in shed. Spraying them usually induces drinking and I think having them internally hydrated is very important during a shed.

Does he come up and perch/prowl around at night normally? Sometimes they just go through a period of being on the floor. I agree, however, that your temps need to come down. My warm side is around 86 and my cool side is in the mid-high 70's.

yes i spary him directly. he doesnt prowl around as much as he used to. as for temps.. my room is very warm due to all the reptiles in it, so the ambiant temp in my room is like 75-78. and i have only a 50 watt bulb on him.. if u think its too hot could i just take the heat bulb off him all together for a lil while, and give him a cool down period of the ambiant temp in my room?

sbcrider Sep 21, 2007 04:36 PM

I wouldn't guess about his temps. Just use a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer with the probe directly under the warmer basking spot so you'll know exactly what your temps are. You should also be running any heat source using a thermostat, otherwise, you run the risk of overheating. That may be what is happening.
