HET x HET projects

I was wondering how many breeding attempts would you try breeding HET x HET before you give up and call them normal?

Would you go 3 seasons or 4?

I personally will be keeping my hets because they are cool, but a sales person at a local pet store
said it's a dumb idea to buy hets and it was a waste of money.
He went on to explain when buying hets i was buying an idea of what i want.

I personally disagree but i wondered who else would agree with me or agree with the sale clerk.

Hets are nice, because they have the gene. I personally wouldn't buy a possible het, unless it was say a pastel possible het or something like that. If you breed 2 hets together you get a chance of producing a morph or more. You may not. I don't really like the idea of breeding 2 hets together, because everything that looks normal may or may not be a het. If you breed a morph to a het, then everything that looks normal is definately a het. Also with a morph to a het breeding, you chances are better of producing a morph or more. I would suggest to you to keep you female hets, and sell you male hets, then purchase a morph male that is the same type as your hets, and breed him to them. Hope this helps...

It depends on the number of animals successfully produced in the clutch. Personally, if I had 3 clutches of 6 or more eggs from a het X het, I'd call at least one of them normal. Now, if I had 3 clutches of 2-3 eggs, I might go 4 seasons.

Hets are a great opportunity. There are a lot of ppl who got into morphs from hets. There are tons of ppl, including big names, that still deal with hets.

I would say it also depends on WHERE/WHO you got your hets from. (they could be normals)

Unless you are talking about 100% hets, which should eventually produce the given morph.

If both snakes are truly hets, out of 16 eggs, you have a 1 in 100 chance of failing to produce the visual, however many seasons that may take. Personally, I have had very good success with both hets and possible hets. As well, I have been ripped off and puchased a "het" produced by a person who is now known to have sold a large number of fakes. Is there some reason for you to doubt your snakes are legitimate hets? Maybe breed them 2 seasons and if no luck try to find somebody with a visual male that will do a breeding loan with your female. 12 eggs from het/het 6 eggs from visual/het would take your odds of failing to produce the visual to over 1 in 2,000. At that point I'd say she's not a het! Good luck.
