Sliding Glass Doors

HappyHillbilly Sep 18, 2007 11:27 PM

Hey gang!
Things are a bit slow around here, 'eh?

Question: How much should sliding glass doors overlap each other? I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 inches. Right or wrong?

The cage is for two adult savannah monitors. The glass doors are each 3/16 x 19 x 33.

Thank ya much!

Depends on what they are made out of and whats behind them I woyuld consider a min of 1" overlap with any lizard species. I use a little over just made the glass cut on a whole inch. I would only worry for certain snake species. I would also recommend safety glass (laminated glass) for any large lizard or boid, or any species that will frequently test the strength of glass.

Best of Luck

Hey Jeremy!
Glad you mentioned "laminated." It's funny that you did 'cause while I was making my initial post I thought about that for the first time because I'm using salvaged glass that a friend gave me a long time ago. It's tempered, not laminated. So your mentioning of it was right on time & just what I needed to hear.

This is pretty much a temporary cage I'm throwing together. I'm making it in sections so it can be modified as needed in the future. It's got a 2ft(H) x 4ft(W) x 6ft(L) bottom section, a 3ft(H) x 4ft(W) x 6ft(L) top section, and then the face for the top section. Since I needed this cage yesterday I'm going to scratch sliding glass doors for the time being, now.

I've got an old walk-thru sliding glass door glass panel (out of it's frame) that I'm gonna slap on the front and I'll order two laminated glass panels later & change out the front.

Thanks for giving me an even better answer than I asked for (mentioning laminated).

Catch ya later!
Mike
