There has been observation on those that came into the US in the early 80's that are way bigger in size than those you see on the market recently, I mean very veRY BIG for fresh imports; like 8" the least!
I don't know if he left out that paragraph I mentioned above since I hadn't get a chance to see it yet, but there's a book (only 10 bucks cheap!?! go figure...) on this species by EJ(P...actually's last name) who's frequently lurking around this and (now probably migrated and found a cozy home (oh boy!) in other) forums, which I believe will have the most current information that you might need. And from time to time, he's also morphing into a "sNAKEr" so that should whet ye appertite.
