Questions on cages for my crested

bluestanger66 Sep 19, 2007 02:31 PM

I have been told so many different things when it comes to size of cage for my crested gecko. he is almost 9 months old now, i was looking to get a 12x12x18 exo terra cage, or should i go with an 18x18x18? right now he is in a 10 gallon tank? please help me decide! thank you!

12x12x18 is only 1 gallon larger than your 10g. you will need the 18x18x18 for one gecko but if you want to have a pair in the future for breeding purposes, just go for the 18x18x24 now. in fact, he would be happier in there by himself with the extra height anyway.

Also consider a cage extender. It is what we used and our girl is very happy with it. It is basically a coated mesh cage that installs on top of a standard 10 gallon. The two together make it basically a 20 gallon high. I think they are targeted more for chameleons, but check them out. The one we bought even included a leaf vine and clips to hang it from the top. Just another suggestion.
