Hi folks, what is your experience with male combat with kayuadi dwarfs? Should I seperate multiple males during mating season like I do with my carpets?? I have 2.2, still not adult but of course I dont' want to take chances...
thanks! Mat

Mat,
i would think kayuadis are the same as other retics- very aggressive male domination and when lesser male cannot escape things escalate and can be brutal bloody and fatal.
i wouldnt put two males together and be careful putting a male right in with a female that has just been with another male in case scents linger and trigger combat against female by mistake. i usually wait a day to put in a new male.

In my personal experiences breeding season or not Retics will get into a tiff. I just (hate to admit this) lost my male dwarf to such a fight. The female and he for some very unknown reason had got into a fight and she bit him up pretty good. But sadly the deepest wound regardless of vet intervention and antibiotics got infected and he did not survive.
Those two had been living in a huge 7' x 8' x 4' cage for at least five months together with zero incidents. What cause the fight is unknown and the worst part (for me) was there wasn't a thing I could do about it.
I have seen a few tiffs between females.
So in answer of your questions yes males (and females) can get into combats. Is it required for them to breed like other reptilian species ........... no.
Hope this helps.

Looks, brains, and venom . . . . how do I stay single?
Hi winslow& Christine!
Thanks a lot for you answers!! That helps a lot!
At the moment I keep 1.1 together, 1.0 seperately and 0.1 is still in quarantene.
For planing the futere housings I have one more question...
What would be your advise: should I make 2 enclosures with 1.1 and 1.1 and keep the couples together 12 month over the year with just doing some temperarure cycling or 1.2 / 1.0 with exchanging the male during the mating periode from time to time???
Mat
