I offered F/T rat pinks as a first meal for my very first clutch of Albino/Het hatchlings and they all ran away. Should hatchlings always get live as a first meal?

Live will get better results. Try a fuzzy mouse and in time switch them to f/t. Get them established first.
it can be done...
but , conditions need to be perfect.
if they aren't snug in a tight hide , your odds won't be good.
try feeding at dusk , and don't even bother hoisting the rat
unless the ball is just nosing the edge of it's hide , and most important for neonates , the rat is warm.
if that doesn't work after a few attempts , feed live off tongs and
as soon after the post-ingestion-yawn as possible , follow with the f/t.
good luck ,
ck
