Eye problem solved...At least gone!!!

negatronix Sep 20, 2007 01:04 PM

Just wanted to post and let anyone interested know that Giggles eye problem has gone away.

I removed the screw in UV light and replaced it with a normal UV tube light, used a ceramic heating element,Refresh PM eye ointment and a sterile saline rewetting drop for a week.

Both of his eyes are open, and he is climbing and begging for food more than ever!

While I'm still not sure what caused the condition (I'm pretty sure it was the light), everything seems to be back to normal.

Thanks for the input and help!

Kory,

I'm not familar with this story. Could you give me the background if you dont mind. You said your snake had an eye condition that you feel may have been caused by the lights you were using? I am curious about this and would like to have more information.

Thanks,

Alan

If you scoll down to the fairly long thread on eye problems, I explained the problems that my little Chuck was having. It seemed to be related to the UV light that I switched over to.

I was using 2ft long UVA and UVB lights. I decided to try the screw in type UV bulb... Zoo-med UVB 10.0 which I believe may have been too close to the basking site and burned the little fellas eyes... much like "welding flash". Those screw in bulbs are extremely brite and intense when comparing just one to a UVA 5.0 and a UBV 10.0 flourescent style. It actually hurt my eyes.

While I'm not 100% sure of this, the problem has gone away since the bulb was removed. He is doing very well now.

I am thinking about trying the lightbulb out in another cage to see if it causes the same issue.

Hope this helps!
-Kory
