How long to wait...

s_bo Sep 20, 2007 01:53 PM

Well, if my female is gravid then she's 151 days POS now! I'm starting to have serious doubts now as you can understand, despite her showing all the signs, swelling, leaning, heat conservation etc.

Anyway, my question is how long should I hold off before feeding her? I don't want to leave it too much longer if she's not gravid.

Thanks

I had the same problem over the summer. My girl was way after 135 days POS but still showing some signs... but then she started shrinking after 145 days... and she's not gravid.

I hope this isn't the same thing that's happening to you - but rather than wait too much longer before feeding her, if I were you I'd either take her to a vet and have a sonogram or xray done so you'll know for sure. That - or feed her a VERY SMALL meal and wait some more - the meal will help her keep from losing too much weight and shouldn't disrupt things too much.

I can sympathize - it feels bad when you get to that point - there is still the possibility of babies, but you don't want to starve her if she's not REALLY gravid, and it's nervewracking to try to move a possibly gravid snake for a vet visit - but the vet visit would tell you for sure what you need to do.

Good luck!
