Just another White snake?????????

BakerReptiles Sep 21, 2007 12:10 PM

I just wanted to comment on those who always say ...."Big deal its just another White Snake". Granted, there are many morphs now that create white snakes, but people seem to forget that these Lucys are usually the super form of that morph or a combination like in the lesser-mojave lucys. They become more powerful snakes when you consider them in breeding programs.

For example if you had a lesser-mojave lucy male and bred it to a pastel female, that "just another White Snake" could produce lessers, mojaves, Pastaves,& pastel lessers.

Also, when you see how everyone is crazy over the Super stripe and one of the key ingridents in the Super stripe is a yellow belly,or(HET IVORY)! See what I mean people? Those white snakes just increase your odds when you are trying to hit those morphs.

I'm sure some of you that make these comments about White snakes, if you actually produced one and saw it poking its head out of an egg I'm sure you wouldn't say, "Darn it! I got one of those White Snakes, I was hoping I wouldn't hit one of those!"

Personally I would give anything to see a white head pop out. I think they are amazing looking.

...that looks tasty.
Like a bowl of vanilla ice cream with a pulse ...

Congrats on a showpiece type Ball.

What's the pairing that produced that particular Leucy?

You know I was just reading the post below (I'm sure I don't have to specifically say which one) and it blows my mind how some people can say (as you said), "big deal, its just another white snake."

What?!?! The genetics of every white snake is different and unique and purely amazing. Not to mention the sheer appearance is jaw-dropping.

Where's the appreciation for the hobby that we're supposed to love so much??? I think it's honorable (and apparently rare) to be in the hobby for so many years-and-years and still be able to think that even the normals that are as normal as they get are still beautiful.

It like people describing certain mutations or versions of mutations as "ugly." Ugly pastels are mentioned quite often. Is there such a thing as an "ugly" ball?? Are we not humble it all? think all the snakes are commandingly impressive and beautiful.

Makes me think how some people think its nothing but money anymore. Don't get me wrong, money is still a bonus, but what about the sheer enjoyment you get from working with these magnificant animals? It should be more than "just another white snake."

Sorry, this is my rant. I'm sure this post will be bashed mercilessly.

I have to agree with your post. Well spoken...

As per money..well, speaking for myself, I care more about how I SPEND my money in this hobby than how I might MAKE money in this hobby.

My point? I'd hate to spend a whack of cash on a white snake just to breed it and find out the 'ingredients' aren't what I was told they were...

I can't be the only person with this concern, right?

So many white snakes now. No general consensus on what each (Butter X Butter, Lesser X Mojave, Russo X Mojave, etc etc) 'should' look like...(ie: dorsal stripe or no dorsal stripe, head patterning or no head patterning, faint patterning visible or not visible in direct sunlight...etc, etc)

Could get sticky in the next couple of years as people start producing Blue-Eyed white Balls in numbers...

Even now there are numerous Blue-Eyeds for sale with no mention of what made them. Hmm..
