A few questions...

orochi Sep 21, 2007 04:19 PM

that I cant seem to find answers for.

Can Garter Snakes swim? I know they need enough water to be completely emerged, but can they/do they like to have enough that they can actually swim, or just to bath?

If they can swim, and enjoy it, can they feed on fish while in the water? Ive seen photos of them eating whole life goldfish and such, but only while on land.

Do they like to climb on limbs or branches?

If anyone can answer any of these questions itd be awesome.

Thanks much!

all snakes can swim, garters enjoy the water, and occasionally climb, as for me, the best set-up is newspaper and a hidebox and a water bowl-- keep your snakes dry!

in my garters setup i have an over size waterbowl (longer than the snake) sometimes she goes for a swim, but most of the time she "basks" on the rim. i also put her fish is her water and watch her go fishing. ive seen a viseo on this forum of a garter eating a fish while compleately under water

if your asking about an aquatic setup the answer is no, they can swim but its clumsy and frantic. there are only a few snakes that can live wet all the time, the rest get scale rot
