These were the two stillborn from the litter...as you can see they are striped in the exact same way...

I know there have been some amazing multiple gene expression morphs produced this year and I congratulate all of the breeders who produced them. However, in terms of pure appearance this one may be the most impressive of all. This is accentuated by the fact it is 50% suriname giving it that deeper rich red color. I hope this proves to ge genetic because it would be a great addition to the available pattern mutations. Congratulations again.

We have red belly snakes here in Michigan but they don't look anything like that beauty. What an asthetically pleasing morph. I have to agree with a few of the others, best boa of the year!

By the way, it looks like it is either a girl or a boy that is going to grow up to be very insecure.

PBM Sep 22, 2007 02:21 PM

Very cool, hope you prove this trait out in a few years!

kirby Sep 22, 2007 03:03 PM

imported Guyana boa that had a similar appearance. If I remember it had full body striping and I think it looked similar to this. I couldn't find a picture of it.

If you have any old Vivarium magazines laying around, the Candy Cane boa is in the back advertising sections of some of those issues. I know I have some laying around I could dig up with pics in it that I could scan if nothing else???? I think that animal has passed on, but it was a very cool looking boa.

kirby Sep 23, 2007 07:49 AM

I e-mailed Brian and he said there was no digital image of it. If someone could scan it and post it that would be great as obviously many people have never seen it.

I remember a strange Guyana Red Tail that had white or Calico sides going all the way down. I don't think it had an inverse tail stripe on it though.

I think they may have called it the "Candy Cane" Boa or something like that. Seems like it was more than ten years ago when I saw that animal.
