Well, between my zoom lens shooting from far away and my daughters point and click, I did manage to get some decent pics....

Mom from 2 1/2 weeks ago looking bloated.

Mom and her babies, she was very protective of them..

What do we have here...TWINS, still in the sack together!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Had to keep closing the door while I was cleaning up. On the right is the smaller twin, on the left is a normal size sibling.

Toward the top is a normal size sibling, lower left is the larger twin and lower right is the smaller twin.

Dave,
..The twins look like they are okay. I had twins in a litter of Argentinian Rainbows last year and they did not survive. The half size BRB I had in the litter on the 3rd of this month is doing well. He was inside a membrane with a large chunk of material that looked like a crescent shaped piece of slug. I can only guess that he was a twin and the chunk of slug looking material was from his twin sibling that did not progress from an either unfertilized egg cell or a frtilized egg that died very early.

OMG the stats are awesome.....

31 healthy normal babies ranging from 28 - 32 grams each
1 live baby with a kink in the tail
1 stillborn I pulled tail first from mom's vent

AND

a pair of twins..... Yes, two snakes in one sack. I as looking at the sack thinking normal size sack, why is this one so small, good reason, there were two babies in it!!!!!!

Total so far is 34 live, 1 still. I say so far because I moved mom to another cage wher the still was just now born. Have to =check that section for babies after I finish pulling the remaining 5 babies, letting them come out of the sacks at their own pace.

Bad news, my normal lens for my camera crapped out. Do have the kids camera and took several shots with the zoom lens from a distance, dunno what came out!!!!

While pulling the last of the babies out of the cage section they were born in, I glanced over at the section I put the mom and where I pulled the stillborn baby out of her. I saw what looked like at first glance to be her eating that still born baby. I'm thinking cool, dunno if that's ever been witnessed before but is being witnessed now.

BUT, she was not eating it, she was trying to revive it. She had it mid body and was very gently chomping on it. Then she let it go and proceeded to nudge it all over, mostly around mid body. She repeated the picking up the mid body and gently chomping two more times. I was in awe, I had no idea that was even possible, let alone ever seen. Sucks about the camera!!!

WOW!! Dave congrats on the litter, they all look great. I especially like the runt twin. But i have to say, that behavior Bullseye was showing is truly amazing. I wish i could have seen that first hand. I guess it goes to show that they are definitely smarter than we give credit. I have always thought that ALL reptiles were underestimated in intelligence as well as emational capacity. Once again though, I really wish i could have seen such a display!

and congrats on your biggest litter which was 31 I believe which is also what Jeff put up this year but what's the most you ever heard of 35 or so? Thanks for the stats and you have to weigh the twins too for me or at least the smaller one of the two. Congrats on a new personal best in the litter amount and hope the mice sex is working for youlol take care Dave

rainbowsrus Sep 22, 2007 01:57 PM

I've read of ranging to 35 but never heard first hand account of over 31...myself and jeff and somebody also posted 31 last year, forget who.

All the stats are above....somewhere

the typical baby was 29 - 32 grams,
the twins were 19 and 13 grams

Yeah, gotta get the mouse sex thing going quick.

Congratulations on a nice litter Dave and thanks for the numbers. I think it's interesting that you POS days have been in the 125 to 135 day range and mine are all in the 105 - 110 range. Could this be related to "incubation" temperature? My females are usually 85-86°.

bci coming in huh? I bet you're getting anxious right about now. His keepers looked awesome so I can't wait to see what you're gonna pick out. I forgot are you getting 2 or 3 boas? And you are aiming at the 1.1 or 1.2 sex ratio? Just wondering that's all but my female dh shed a few days ago and her color is so much better since settling in as opposed to lost in shipping stress so to speak but enough with the talk here is what I got

first day I got her a couple weeks back

and today

Dunno, Mike's got one other person ahead of me, and then I'll be picking out one or two to go with the female already on hold. Depends on price, what's available and what I can scrape together by then. I want 1.1 striped hypo along with the female already on hold but dunno how much that will all be.....
